Program Eligibility Requirements for Guests

Our Overnight Respite serves Vancouver residents who meet specific criteria. These requirements ensure we can provide the best possible care to those who need it most.

Citizenship & Residency

  • Adults living in Vancouver who are currently being cared for at home
  • Must be a Canadian Citizen or Landed Immigrant
  • Must be assessed and referred by a VCH Case Manager
  • Must be medically stable

What to Bring

  • Clothing
  • Toiletries and incontinence products
  • Equipment (e.g., cane, walker)
  • Personal items needed for daily living
  • Tube feeding equipment

Stay Duration

Guests may stay up to 30 days per year, which can be used all at once or spread throughout the year. This limit is subject to review by the guest’s Case Manager based on individual circumstances.

Making a Reservation

All Reservations are Managed by Vancouver Coastal Health 

If you provide care for someone, such as an aging parent or spouse, and need respite care for them, please contact the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority to be assigned a case manager. Your case manager will assess your situation and put you on the priority list to make a reservation.

Guests may stay up to 30 days per year, which may be used intermittently or all at once. (Limit subject to review by guest’s Case Manager.) 

Medication Management

Your loved one’s medication routine continues seamlessly during their stay. All medications administered at the Overnight Respite are professionally prepared by MediSystems Pharmacy, ensuring accuracy, safety, and continuity of care.

Our nursing staff coordinates closely with the pharmacy to manage medication schedules, monitor for any concerns, and maintain detailed records throughout each guest’s stay.
