Who are you?
You are a strong leader and an excellent communicator who is interested in a rewarding career with a leading organization in long-term care. You are a current member of the CSNM and have 5+ years of related management experience in health care.
You are ethical, you foster team work, and you inspire and motivate team members to create a strong, engaged productive and positive work environment. You have the ability to mediate between staff members and establish and maintain positive relationships.
As per the current Public Health Order, full vaccination (2) against COVID-19 is a condition of employment.
SUMMARY OF POSITION
Reporting to the CEO, the position is responsible for the management of an organized and cost-effective service for the Food Services and Environmental Services at Fair Haven Vancouver Lodge and Burnaby Lodge.
Corporate & Financial
- Participates in strategic planning, objective setting, policy development, cost, control, labor relations and standards of community care regulations. Ensures compliance with legislative requirements, industry standards and codes, including any requirements for external reporting.
- Prepares annual budgets, including Capital Replacement and Operating Budget development and monitoring; ensures capital plan is updated and reviewed annually.
- Prepares a variety of written reports to the CEO and others, as required.
Operations
- Oversee day to day operations of Food Services and Environmental Services.
- Establishes written procedures for purchasing and delivery and storage of quality products and supplies.
- Manages and controls departmental equipment, inventory, and supplies.
- Ensure all food services, housekeeping, and laundry equipment is maintained in proper working order.
- Conduct audits.
- Records department costs, maintains inventory, and regularly checks storage areas for stock levels.
- Attends to various Committees and provides leadership (Chairs) to the OHS Committee of both sites.
Operations, specific to Food Services
- In conjunction with the Dietitian, ensures that the nutritional and therapeutic requirements of the residents are met.
- Plans and reviews menus and develops standardized recipes reflecting the specifications of the Canadian Food guide.
- Evaluates and monitors meal preparation and services to ensure food safety/sanitation plans are in compliance with Health Authorities’ standards and regulations.
- Estimates food and non-food requirements; purchases and receives supplies; resolves discrepancies with suppliers.
- In the absence of the Dietitian, ensures clinical responsibilities are maintained.
Human Resources
- Staff management: hiring, education, performance and attendance management, discipline, WSBC, pro-actively identifies and solves staffing and employee relations issues.
- Defines duties, routines and workload.
- Oversees the staff schedules, reports, and time records for personnel/payroll processing using EMS.
What you bring:
Education Training and Experience:
- Grade 12 plus graduation from a recognized two-year program in Nutrition Management and a current member of the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management.
- Five years’ recent related management experience in Health Care.
- Must hold current certificates in Food Safe Level I Basic and Level II Advanced.
- Related experience in volume food preparation in a hospitality / Health Care setting.
- Skilled in computer use (Microsoft Office Suite) and other technologies relevant to the position
Nice to have:
- Experience in long-term care.
- Experience in managing housekeeping and laundry services.
Skills and Abilities:
- Must possess leadership and supervisory skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills when communicating with residents, families and all levels of the organization.
- Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective interpersonal and productive working relationships, and to communicate, direct, and coordinate staff in a cooperative and responsive manner.
- Ability to analyze, plan and manage within fiscal, contractual, physical and human resource constraints.
- Ability to travel between the two facilities and maintain an office at both locations.
- Must be prepared to respond to emergency situations between the two facilities and be part of the manager on-call roster.
