Important Information About Medication – July 1, 2026

Dear Fair Haven Families and Friends,

At Fair Haven, we want to keep your loved one safe and well cared for. We are writing to share an important change about how we manage medications that come from outside of MediSystem, our pharmacy provider.

Starting July 1, 2026, there will be a new process for these medications to ensure compliance with Residential Care Bylaws. (Read memo from MediSystems here.)

If MediSystem cannot provide a certain over-the-counter medication, and it is brought in from another source, it must first be checked, repackaged (if appropriate), and labelled by MediSystem before our nurses can give it to the resident.

This means:

  • Medications from outside sources will need to be sent to MediSystem before they can be used
  • If MediSystem can supply the medication, we cannot use the one brought from outside
  • It may take a few days for MediSystem to prepare the medication, so planning ahead is very helpful
  • Exceptions: Prescription medications provided directly by a specialist program or agency—such as Renal Pharmacy, BC Cancer, or other specialized care programs—are exempt from this process and may continue to be administered as supplied by those programs

Please note that resident’s own prescription medications and over-the-counter products that MediSystem can supply will NOT be repackaged and nurses will not be able to administer.

These steps are in place to make sure all medications are safe and handled properly. Please see the attached memo from MediSystem for more details.

If you have any questions, please reach out to our nursing team—we are happy to help.

Thank you for your support and partnership in caring for your loved one.

Warmly,

Loretta Lo, DOC, Fair Haven Homes Society
