What is Family Council?
Family Council is comprised of a group of relatives and friends of residents of Fair Haven. The Council works together with staff to maintain and enhance the quality of life of residents, and to provide a voice in decisions that affect our loved ones in the facility.
Family Council allows families to support each other, and offer encouragement and information. Families have an opportunity to express their ideas and concerns and work towards positive change. Family Council involvement can especially benefit residents who are physically or mentally unable to voice their concerns and needs for themselves.
Our goals are to:
- Inform and educate families
- Share ideas for the purpose of problem solving
- Maintain two-way communication between families, residents and the facility
- Collaborate with facility staff, families and residents to address the interests of all residents and families
- Provide mutual support for all residents and their families
We welcome all new families and friends of residents to become involved with the Family Council.

We are excited to welcome Dana LeMoine, Director of Therapeutic Recreation and Volunteer Services at Fair Haven Homes Society, to share her insights on the power of therapeutic recreation and how it positively impacts seniors in long-term care!
Therapeutic recreation uses activities like arts, music, physical exercise, and social engagement to enhance the emotional, physical, and mental well-being of residents. Dana will dive into how these programs promote a higher quality of life, helping seniors stay active, engaged, and fulfilled in their daily lives.
This is a great opportunity to connect, share ideas, express concerns and help make Fair Haven an even better community.

Growing our Family Council
We are looking to grow and strengthen our amazing Family Council. We are actively looking for the input of our families in how we deliver care.
Family Council focuses on learning and improving through sharing and collaboration. We need new members to build on these valuable conversations, and to bring new perspectives and experiences to the table.
